School Overview
The year 1908
The Park Building houses the city University and the public library. We specialize in chemistry and engineering.
The year 1911
Our student union is up and running. The opening ceremony was featured in the earliest edition of our student union newspaper, The Galleon.
The year 1945
After World War II, we began teaching arts and humanities to meet the growing needs of our students.
The year 1969
We became the University of Portsmouth.
The year 1977
Three years of construction work began on the Freven Library, located on the site where our university library now stands.
The year 1992
After a decade of being one of the largest and best-performing polytechnics in the UK, we have now surpassed our original name and achieved university status. The University of Portsmouth was born.
2005 to present
Over the past fifteen years, we have been investing in all areas of the University to continually improve our campus and our services - check out some of the highlights below.
